BEVERLY, Mass. - After three-straight The Commonwealth Coast Conference titles and a trio of NCAA Tournament appearances, Endicott College's Kate Mullen has stepped down as head women's lacrosse coach. Mullen compiled an impressive 45-15 record in three years and was named the 2008 TCCC Co-Coach of the Year.
Mullen, a 2002 graduate of Goucher College (Towson, Md.), transformed Endicott into the conference's top women's lacrosse program. Prior to Mullen's arrival, the Gulls were without a conference title in 10 seasons of competition. Mullen quickly changed that in her first year at the helm by leading the Blue and Green to their best season in program history, winning the TCCC crown and notching a program-high 17 wins.
"My experiences as a member of the Endicott community and the opportunities I have had as a result have been overwhelmingly positive and rewarding," said Mullen. "I have been incredibly fortunate to coach a group of young women who exemplify excellence on and off the lacrosse field. I am certain they will continue to achieve at a high level and attain their goals. I am proud to have been associated with Endicott College and the quality of character my student-athletes and colleagues represent. This has truly been my family for five years."
The Gulls were equally impressive in Mullen's second and third years, winning 28 games over a two-year span including a perfect 9-0 mark in conference play in 2008. In her three years at the helm, coach Mullen posted a 24-3 record against conference opponents. She will depart Endicott with a .750 winning percentage.
"In the three years that coach Mullen has led Endicott, her tireless passion and commitment in developing a nationally respected program has been remarkable," said Director of Athletics Brian Wylie. "The compilation of wins doesn't truly describe what she has done in developing an outstanding group of student-athletes who have achieved so much both on, and off the field. She is leaving the program in a very good place."
