Box Score

BEVERLY, Mass. - Suffolk University built a 3-0 lead on the strength of a two run fifth inning, en route to edging Endicott College, 3-2, in a non-conference baseball game on Wednesday afternoon on North Field. The win moves Suffolk to 29-10 overall, while the Gulls close out their 2008 campaign at 19-21.

Sophomore Tim Doyle (Milton, Mass.) earned the win as he tossed six and a third innings, allowing seven hits and two runs while striking out three. Doyle gave way to junior Greg DiMarco (Newton, Mass.) who allowed just one hit in 2.2 innings of work, striking out four.

The Rams got the offense started as Mike Kenneally hit his third homerun of the year, a solo shot in the top of the third to give the visitors a 1-0 lead. A single and back-to-back walks in the top of the fifth set the table for a two-run inning, as Jose Alejandro reached on a fielder's choice for an RBI. Rory Gentile got credit for the second run batted in of the frame, as he grounded out to third allowing a run to cross the plate.

Aaron Santos (Cambridge, Mass.) refused to let the Gulls go quietly as he connected on an RBI double, plating Adam Labbe (Litchfield, Maine) to cut the lead to two. Endicott made it a one run game in the seventh as Andrew Betts (Bristol, Conn.) pulled an RBI single allowing Labbe to score yet again, bringing the Gulls back within striking distance.

Unfortunately for the Gulls, that's as close as they would get, as the Blue and Green fell in non-league action, 3-2. Mike Barbati (Melrose, Mass.) had a pair of hits in the tough-luck loss. TCCC Rookie of the Year Luis Uribe (Boston, Mass.) had a hit while Adam Labbe accounted for both of the Endicott's runs on the day.

Suffolk was only able to muster a total of two hits in the win. Erik Fields (Swampscott, Mass.) takes the loss for the Gulls as he threw four innings and gave up three runs and walked three. Tyler Connelly (Grafton, Mass.) pitched the final five innings for the Gulls, surrendering no hits.
